APRS allows for the automatic position reporting for both fixed and mobile stations. Using low-cost equipment, it is possible for suitably equipped stations to report not only their position, but weather information, short messaging and telemetry information. Using a configuration similar to that employed with the packet next work, a series of fixed station digipeat packets from mobile and other fixed sites. Using the UI protocal, this allows the system operate without specific knowledge of the other sites call sign or location. Many of the digipeaters are also connected to the internet. This allows the packets received from other stations to be "IGATE'd" so that this information is available on a worldwide basis.
At the current time I generally operate two sites. W5ADC-14 is my mobile system
and you may see other versions of W5ADC-XX when I am supporting public service
events.
